PBIS

Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support

What Is PBIS?

PBIS is a way for schools to encourage good behavior by teaching students about behavior.  We do this by speficially instructing students about rules, routines, and expectations.

What Does PBIS Look Like At CR-B?
#CRBPRIDE

The teachers at CR-B have worked hard to set up a system of positive behavioral intervention and supports that we think will work best with our students and we are still perfecting the more we learn.

Our first step was to make a list of expectations we have for students in different areas of the school and while using electronics.  We broke these expectations down into the different categories we had created using the word PRIDE.  In the elementary we simplified it to use the words safe, respectful, and responsible.

For example, if we were discussing hallways with our students, we would want them to know what it means to be safe, be respectful, and be responsible in the hallway.  You can see our expectations matrix below.

The students are taught these expectations and are expected to follow them.  When they follow them, they are rewarded through positive praise and actions (like a recognition from a teacher or a high-five) and also through more tangible rewards like celebrations.  We also will have assemblies throughout the year to reteach students about expectations.

When the expectations are not followed, we have a procedure in place to address this.  First the teachers will just be observing the behavior.  We will be looking to see how often the behavior occurs and whether or not the student has been taught what is expected of them.  If we feel that the behavior needs to be addressed we will follow the flow chart below.

The ultimate goal of CRB PRIDE and PBIS is to create a positive learning enviroment were all students can succeed.  We hope to achieve this by learning along with our students and also using all the procedures we have in place.

What Can You Do At Home?

Here are some things you can do at home.

1. Talk with your child at home and discuss what they do at school.

2. Talk about negative behaviors that you might observe whether it is done by them or someone elese..  Teach them about differnt ways they can posibly change the behavior.

**If you notice your child struggling with a particular behavior, check out the website below to see

if they may have some ideas on how to address it.

3. Be a role model.  Show your child positive behavior by the way you react in different situations.
